Crazy oil pressure gage

Yahoo Message Number: 118605
I recently had my oil changed on my 2003 intrigue and as I was driving it home I noticed the oil pressure gage was pegged. I called service company and they weren't very helpful. When the engine was idling the pressure norma but when I accelerated it went off the scale. Any info would be appreciated.

Viscosity of the oil maybe too high. Oil filter could be clogged. Does it improve as the motor gets hot?

Did this happen after the oil change? Oil pressure is usually high when the engine is cold. Are readings normal at operating temperature? Have you noticed this before? Are the gauge and Silverleaf readings similar?

Could be;
Bad gauge
Bad sending unit
Wrong oil
Wrong oil filter
Faulty oil pressure regulator

You know I never thought to check the Silverleaf readings but I am I will. And it did happen after the oil change now I should've been that way before when I had oriole changed and I never noticed it but I was just concerned when saw the meter pegging. I doubt that the temperature ever got to normal
Because it was only about a 2 mile drive from the service shop to the warehouse where I store it. You have given me some good ideas and I will check them as soon as I can thank you very much y'all have been very helpful

Glen:

If the SL and dash gauges vary, and the SL is normal go with the SL reading, because it is the connected to the port the Tech uses to check your engine.
On my '06 Allure with a C9 engine there are 2 oil sending units, Cat and CC. I had my oil pressure go crazy on the SL but the dash gauge read normal. Changed out the Cat oil sending unit and everything was back to normal.

On our 04 Allure with CAPS era ISL370, SL just defaults to 55PSI (It gets a positive pressure signal, but not the actual reading. So on that setup, you have to watch the gauge. Very normal to see high PSI at start with cold engine/oil. Usually drops to about the 40PSI range while running down the road at temp. When at stop and idling, often see the PSI around the 20 PSI range.
