Tires 12R 22.5 vs 315/80R 22..5

Yahoo Message Number: 87934
I have a 2002 Country Coach Intrigue #11430 It has, as it came from CC 12R 22.5 tires. Right now I'm debating the advisability of replacing the 12Rs with 315/80 Rs It seems the RPM will be about the same and I will gain from load range H to load range L. I'm just not to sure about this size and tire to tire clearance and who knows what else I may be overlooking.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Don

Hi Don, We installed the Michelin 315's in December 2011 and now have aprox. 20,000mi with no issues. Our driving style may not be the same as everyone. Fulltimers, moving about once a week to a new spot. Always boondocking, driving 2 lane black top mostly, at 55-58 mph. 115psi front, 105psi rear.cold (60degrees). The extra wide footprint has helped in loose or soft parking spots throughout Alaska last summer. NO clearance problems on our 2002 Intrigue #11329......Skip .

Don,

I have the same set up 315 on the front steer tires and 12Rs in the back. My own personal experience has been that the price of 315s is quite a bit higher than 12R's. Last time I bought tires from a large metro truck tire place I had a choice of about 5-6 major brands making 12R and 2 making 315. The cost of "dump truck tires" (As the tire seller called them.) was a lot more.
Also, I think they are wider. So you may have clearance issues on the duals.

Some coaches the 315's will fit the others they won't. If you go to Les Schwab in Junction city they either know before hand or will mount them for you to try without penalty if you have to go back to the 12R. I'm pretty sure they will fit on the front. It will be the fender clearance on the duals that will be the real issue. Make sure you dump all the air to make sure there is clearance as if the suspension bottoms out while in a turn..
